Miltiadis Chalkidis "Apo Kardias"

Miltiadis Chalkidis Miltos Marathon Apo Kardias album cover

Apo kardias” in Greek means “From the heart…”

From the heart” is the fourth release in order by Miltiadis Chalkidis, taking of course into account the previous 3 albums as Miltos Marathon, that impartially constitutes Miltiadis first attempt to create essentially a …“From the heart” Greek folk music record.

From the heart”is an authentic Greek folk music album…

In no way is it “entechno”, as that would be an offensive characterisation and in no way the characterisation pop suits, in order to approach the features of this album.

It is just an honest approach to Greek folk music through the prism of the singularity that describes Miltiadis Chalkidis compositions and personal performing style.

An honest approach which is clear not only in music but also in the lyrics of the 9 songs included in this album.

I wanted to tell real stories and refer to situations experienced by simple everyday people, in the hope that the listener will identify himself with them and understand that in the end he is not alone fighting the survival conditions he has to encounter both in Greece and throughout the world of 2019….Maybe in these songs he will find comfort to rest his heart and spirit as well as travel through music… nice and simple… like the old days when things used to be more simple and certainly more pure” …Miltiadis explains.”

From the heart” signifies a special alternative and definitely a form of “reply” to most songs released nowadays that deal with either sexual references or pseudo-existential uninteresting subjects that breed ground only to endless and futile topic discussions. …

Needless to say, the music that surrounds most of this songs , lacking the prestige of pluralism and the quality that characterises Greek music in its entire spectrum…

From the heart” is a unique and personal album for Miltiadis,so for the tenth time, besides composing the music and writing the lyrics, do the vocals, midi programming and play all the instruments, he himself took on the orchestrating the mixing and mastering, aiming at a personal signature in the production, as he had already presented in his previous albums.

Among the songs, the tabouras, the psaltery, the lute, the piano and various percussions, coexist in harmony together with the rest of the ,both electric and acoustic musical instruments, creating in this album a special tone and a vintage feel in the sound, along with a sense of a nostalgic mood…

Miltiadis Chalkidis, chose to sign off this album writing a special composition with traditional music from Pontos, in an attempt to honor his roots in this way and also send a personal message with this particular song …

I seek a world where all the people live in peace”.

Undoubtedly that verse sounds romantic.. what is more …someone could easily discern and discover several similar lyrics to this tone at the present record..

After all that was the creator’s ulterior goal ….

Upon hearing all the songs of this album in total, the listener in the end can, even for a few moments, feel both acoustically and aesthetically the meaning of those simple yet substantial words combined with the power of music…

As a result …this combination becomes even more particular and experientially familiar and ultimately transforms to a connection between the creator and the listener…

A very unique connection indeed… a connection “Apo kardias”…
